Sandy bridge is as david said the architecture name. Whats easier to say Sandybridge or FCBGA1224?

1155 is the socket style. Like how Core2duo was 775, same as Pentium 4s

And for the future... Only dumb embarassing question is the one you don't ask.

Now, my honest opinion on 2600k or 2500k would be to go 2500k now as in under a year Intel is releasing true hex core chips which will most likely out do the 2600k and is 1155 socket style.

Nvidia video cards usually do a better job at workstation type tasks. And most up to date Video software is coded to off-load a lot of work from the cpu to the gpu if the gpu is supported. I would go with the i5 2500K and spend the extra money on a better Nvidia based video card. This combo deal looks pretty good for the money.
