Default Question about cpu choice

I'm putting a computer together for a friend... Her basic needs are internet browsing, minor entertainment, and possibly music producing and editing in the near future (next year maybe). Since she wouldn't be gaming or using two taxing applications at the same time, would a single core be more reasonable than a dual core processor (AMD only)? For example wouldn't it be more of a value to get a http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103526

over a

I was thinking 1gb (512X2) would be more reasonable for her requirements than 2gb (1gbX2).... What do you think?

She is on a $1000 budget by the way. Thanks for the replies

personally i would look at a cheap LGA775 (a.k.a s775 and Socket T) motherboard that supports the new Core 2 Duo processors and then throw a cheap Celeron processor in for the mean time. later if she finds she needs more power or would like an upgrade she can get a C2D e6300/e6400 or e6600.

2x512mb would probably suit her needs. if she expands into video work though she may need 2gb.

Thanks for the help. I'm mainly looking for something that would load up quickly, handle anti spyware software properly, and last her for a few years.
