Default the purpose of dual core

will having a 3ghz dual core make games run any better than just having a 3ghz ? cause i am thinking about getting one or the other

Only games that are mulithreaded. Which is barely any as of now. Next year, many games will begin to take use of it.

i would also advise against a 3GHz processor seeing as that would mean you are looking at a Pentium 4 which is now quite weak by comparison to AMD's Athlon 64 and Intel's new Core 2 series.

Dual core = gaming on one core, running other crap on the other.
