Question Processor Question?

I have a standard dell dimension 3000 computer. I was wondering if it was possible to upgrade my processor to like an AMD Athlon or some sort of dual-core action, Is it possible to even upgrade my processor?

From the way the specs read, you have a Intel 478 socket. No dual cores for that one.

You would have to upgrade your motherboard to either a 775 (Intel), or a 939 or AM2 (AMD) in order to get dual cores. In order to use your current RAM, You would have to go with a socket 939.

If you really want a dual core or something, maybe it's time to order/build a new PC.

Socket 776 can use DDR1 too. I'm not sure if there are any C2D boards that support DDR1 though...

C2D boards don't support DDR1, plus DDR2 is a better choice anyways :P

Why get a socket that's about to be replaced by a new one coming in?

K8L is right around the corner, and C2D is going to be lowered in price in April.

I see no point in getting an AMD Processor currently.

I would hold onto that Northwood until this summer then you can choose between the Conroes and the Next Gen AMDs that are coming.

Well, I'm willing to wait a little more for K8L, but are they going to be like really expensive?

Are there ANY price releases at all?

And when do we think they are going to be released, because I'd want to purchase a PC sometime before mid June.
