Is this processor a good one?

Hi.

Im shortly about to buy a laptop. The one I want has:-

4GB RAM
750GB HDD
Supermulti DL Drive.

However I wanted one with the Inter core i3 or i5. Unfortunately the processor it comes with is a Pentium P6200. Can anyone tell me if this is a good processor. One of the first things im going to do is convert all my music to MP3 192KBS. Will this spec achieve this ok?

Well, they are down with the C2D range. What model are you planning to get? We can suggest other ones that have a better CPU and the same specs for around the same price.

It is an Acer Aspire 5733Z. £315.00

Well, actually looking into the cpu, shows that its slightly better in cpu performance than an i3 330m. Which is the baseline/"entry level".

The "gpu" on the die is a bit more worse, but depending on the price, it may or may not be worth it.

Will it convert mp3s, yha, most likely its a single threaded application, so a higher clock speed is your friend.

At 315, I don't think you'll get a better system, other simular priced systems are run "B" series cpus

From what I can see, the i3 330m is much better than the P6200.

But, for your use, it shouldn't be that bad. Just don't expect to play Skryim.
