The CPU tester utilizes dual cores. Most games do not. So the benchmark above is useless.

Pentium D Dual Core beats AMD in benchmarks. Intels run at lower temps but have a lower temperature before it burns up. AMD run at higher temps but have a higher temperature threshold. Honestly, I would use the Dual core. There is maybe a slight difference between the two.

thanks guys for all your replies. this is for my second rig which i plan to use as a backup system. i think that i'll go for the PD.

You have it reverse. Intel Netburst > temp than AMD K8
