Hi everyone-

Im new to the forum, and Im building my 2nd desktop (first was built in 98' so alot has changed :p). These are the Components im think of installing, I would like your guys opinion. I want a computer than has hardly any loading times while multitasking, opening programs etc. The computer will be used primarily for recording music (PROTOOLS with an mbox), music storage (itunes and the like), internet, and some gaming. I will have a dual monitor setup, with a 22" lcd and 19" lcd. (All included links are for refrence, not necessarily where they will be purchased from)

Case- Antec (dont know model)

CPU-AMD athalon 64x2 5200 2.8 ghz Link

MB-ASUS m2 sli deluxe Link

PSU-Cooler master extreme power rp650Link

Video Card-EVGA 320-P2-N811-AR GeForce 8800GTS 320MB Link

RAM-Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 (2 qty, 4 gb total) Link

HDD-Western Digital Caviar GP WD5000AACS 500GB 5400 to 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA (2 qty.) link

Op SYS- WIndows vista 64

DVD drives- i have an 18x dual layer dvd writer and a 52x cd rom drive

This is what im at so far (only have the case/dvd/cd drives/fans/wm stuff so far)

I would also like to know what you guys think about sound cards, possibly with MIDI input.

Thanks in advance for all your time.
Corey

you could always go with intel q6600!!! if your a multitasker.
and dont get the 8800 320mb version, you can get the gt for the exact same price.

And if your not a gamer then just get the 8600gt or the ati 3850...or even the 8400gs.

8600GT is what I have, it does ok for COD4 on medium and BF2 on high at 1024x768, as said though:

Gamer=8800GT 512/256. HD 3870/3850 (3850 is lower spec)

Light Gaming= 8600GT, ATI X1650

No gaming= 8400GS, etc

Wow, you guys are great on these forums. Thank you everyone for your input. I think the 8800gt is a better option, even though I dont play a ton of games, there is bound to be something i want to try on computer.

Also, Maroon1 had recomended me an intel processor based on what I will be using the PC MOSTLY for (music recording/ storage). Any coments on the intel processor for those things? I am going to research it further. Thanks again guys.

Corey
