Yeah its good advice. Whatever you want the PC for there is no real reason to cheap out on Ram, i'd say 2x1gb sticks is a sensible minimum (ram is cheap). Also no reason not to get the latest socket motherboard, components are cheaper, you get better performance and have upgrade options.
I don't think choice of CPU is really going to make any difference for your purpose, just make sure its one of the latest models i.e. (AM2+ for AMD, or core 2 duo for intel)

The 8500 is pretty poor for gaming but it should suit your needs well, just don't expect to play any new games.

Newegg.com is seen as the best all round American online store and is always recommended.

ok AMD is not the way to go atm the new chips aren't quite out yet if going amd then get an AM2+ board (has to have a +) as that is the new chip type and you can get the 4200+(as you have listed) as a gap cpu for a month and then upgrade to a phenom core later which should leave the current Intel cpu's in the dust

If you don't want the hassle of changing the cpu later then intel is the way to go as they are currently the best bang for buck processors.

The 7300GS won't play hd media well if you do want to centralise this on hd media then the 8400 or the 8500 are your best choice as they have onboard encoder specialised for HD media playback they can also be passively cooled so are silent ;).

Unless you are an audiophile there is no point buying a soundcard, onboard motherboard soundchips are actually very good and fine for the average person. If you are buying a soundcard then get a decent high quality one which means a $100+cost, I personally don't think its worthwhile though.

Hauppage tv tuners are generally the most recommended and used and the ATI tuners are known to be a bit temperamental.

Any special reason for going with vista? If you do go vista then you will want an extra gig of ram to stop it running slow as it does tend to overload systems with low amounts of ram.

Buy any case you like the look of doesn't matter there is a large selection of htpc or desktop cases around know that are suitable for home media use styled to look like normal audio or video equipment.

The keyboard you chose already comes a mouse....

Dial up  bit old now,you need to use a dial up pci card they are very cheap and easy to set up and are internal.

With a home built pc you don't get a warranty on the whole system you get individual warranties on each component. All companies offer a free 3+year warranty on there products. We tell you only the tried and tested products though so the chance of anything breaking is minimal. If it does just post here and we can help you with all of your issues as you can see by other peoples threads by reading some other posts on the forum.

I have never used a microsoft remote, I think they're ugly and a bit limited in their use. depending how you go you can either get a keyboard and mouse with a gyro (the mouse reacts to hand movements like the Nintendo Wii remote) or get a third party remote hich depends on how much you want to spend you could go full out and buy this:
Kustom PCs Logitech Harmony 1000 Remote
middle of the road:
Kustom PCs Logitech Harmony 525 Remote
then the standard vista remote

i am going with vista because it has fax/scan build-in that i need however if you know any software or hardware that has the same capability or even a computer then please let me know. And so if i get one with windows vista ultimate do i need more ram and memory then if i get windows vista home preimium (don't want windows vista business because it doesn't have windows media center).
if i decide to build my own and purchase all my parts online (can you get the parts in retail stores also) how long will it take to build it (i want to do a complete computer or brand new purchased computer within a week) and is it hard to do it because i never build one before.

The one u recommended has features i dont need (LAN, wireless, 10 GB online back up, dvd+rw) and has smaller lcd display. Please if you have any other suggestions please let me know after reading my previous comments :)

poemaster stop bugging him a computer should be selective to your needs just because you have one to sell doesn't mean its the right one for him!

Yea Please pay more attention to my post next time I said I will BUILD him a quality PC for cheaper then he will find in any store He gave his minimal specs and what he plans to use the computer for I garunteed I could build a much better PC for the price, its the same as buying from any proprietary dealer except he will end up with a better deal, I do not have a PC already build ready to ship out I would build him the PC that is "right for him" and then send it out to him, listen people are just gonna keep telling him to BUILD HIS OWN I am trying to meet half way on this.

You won't need any extra ram to use vista ultimate there is just a difference between xp and vista ram usage method that results in the need for more.

To build first time will take you 1-2 hours it is really simple about 30 screws and your done. Every power connector or data cable is colour coded and shaped so that you can't physically plug it into the wrong slot. One of the guys here was 11 when he built his first computer it really is that simple.

You can buy online it will be slightly cheaper but you will have to wait for shipping or go into stores and get it instantly but you may not have the large selection of parts you need

i changed my mind about having a computer that has fax/scan modem build in because you can fax online to other fax machines.
I guess i won't be building a computer because i might mess up and dont have the time right now.
what i want to know is do i need windows media center to connect my computer to TV (using s-video or another similar method) because thats the sole reason i wanted a windows media center?

You don't need Windows Media Center to connect to a TV.
