Though not a big computer type, I put together a desktop for home based on componets recommended by a friend. It has worked great for two years, except for some issues with 64 bit Vista. Since I didn't bungle that one too much, I think I'd like to put a similar one together for my office desktop, but I'm sure there are better choices two years later. This system is about $1,400. I'm not concerned so much about pinching every penny, but just want a good, stable system with components that fit into the case correctly and are compatable. I will be doing some moderate graphics and video editing for inspection reports on this new system---but not a lot of heavy lifting. I feel confident I cant snap everything together fine, but I defintely need help in confirming the choices are the right ones. Any advice greatly appreciated!

The cpu you picked will not fit in that motherboard. This cpu will and it is more powerful and a few dollars cheaper. However the memory you picked will not work properly with the 920 or the motherboard so you want to go with some thing like this (a little more expensive).

Slaymate, thanks. This is the kind of mistake I am worried about. With those changes, though, looking like a good system?

Also, I have been reading about the Windows 7 I will be upgrading to. Some of my software is not going to be supported, and I have read that CPU need to have the capability to run XP mode. I will try to determine if the one you recommend can do that.
 
Overall the parts look good. Though the 5400rpm hard drive sounds awful slow for your main drive. I would look for a smaller faster drive for the Operating System and then use a bigger slower drive for data storage.

A Solid State Drive aka SSD would be awesome but they are pretty expensive. This isn't the fastest but it's pretty good for the price.

OK.....let me take a look at those hard drives. If I just wanted one hard drive, do you think I should go with the Western Digital? I just posted up the amended list that is lagging for moderator approval I think, so I will make another change to a different hard drive. I really appreciate the help!
 
That's really not something I can answer. Only you know how much space you might need. I rarely save files for long myself so a 500GB drive is more than I need. But some people save all kinds of stuff and 2TB can get slim.

Thanks very much for the input! So I am about to pull the trigger on this system------any further comments or suggestions before I do?
