Hi guys! So, I'm planning to upgrade my 5 year old alienware aurora ALX to improve my gaming experience, but it has been the same 5 years since I paid any attention to advances in technology and I wasn't exactly an expert in the first place, as such I could use some help making sure my proposed upgrades will work well together / hear suggestions on how I could better improve it or upgrade it more cheaply;

Current Spec;

Operating System - MS Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1
CPU - AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ Windsor 90nm Technology (3014.1MHz)
RAM - 4.00 GB Dual-Channel DDR2 @ 376MHz (4 x 1 GB)
Motherboard - alienware alienware (Socket M2 )
Graphics - 768MB GeForce 8800 GTX (nVidia)
Monitor - DELL 2407WFP (1920x1200@59Hz)
Hard Drives - 488GB Seagate ST350063 0AS SCSI Disk Device (ATA)
Audio - High Definition Audio Device

Planned upgrades;

Processor - Intel i5 2500 - 4x 3.3GHz - £152 off amazon (4 core, single thread)
Graphics - Geforce GTX 560 1GB - £150 off amazon (2.4x more powerful according to NVIDIA)

Thoughts? Suggestions? Improvements?

you'll have to upgrade your motherboard and memory as well. What is the make & model of your power supply?

In the price range I'd go with:
Intel i5 2500k, the overclockable version.
XFX HD 6870, more power than the 560 and less expensive.

But, like Slaymate said, you'll have to upgrade your motherboard, RAM, and possibly your power supply.
Also, you'll need to get a new copy of Windows if/when you change your motherboard.
