Default Plan to get Laptop...

Ok I plan to get Laptop. I have around $1000 as my budget. (I maybe will not need to spend all that)

This Laptop will not be used for gaming.
It will be used mostly for office stuff (programming and some other stuff too) like Movies, Music.. basically stuff...
I also might install Linux on it.

I mostly need it because I need second computer and something more portable..

Newegg.com - Acer Aspire AS5570-2609 NoteBook Intel Pentium dual-core T2060(1.60GHz) 14.1" Wide XGA 1GB DDR2 533 80GB DVD Super Multi Intel GMA950 - Retail

Although it's a dual core, it's pretty cheap.

Hmm the monitor is a bit small.
14.1 is just a bit too small.

Dell is very hit or miss on the price vs quality of unit basis, depends what kind of deals they have going. My suggestion is to just cruise over toe newegg.com and browse the laptop section. Pick out your preferred screen size and some of teh base hardware options and look for something in your price range. That is what I am doing for my fiances new laptop for when she goes back to college.

All of Dell's lappys are built bt third parties. So their lappys are decent. their PCs... just don't go there.

Hello,

HP Compaq notebooks are excellent - especially the business models.

HP has recently released a handful of new notebook models at very affordable prices:
