My mistake, I just realized I was thinking of Half-Life 2.

My machine plays Half-Life 2 just fine... not sure about Counter Strike.

Though, isn't that a Half-Life 1 expansion? Is Half-Life 2 less demanding than Half-Life 1?

CSS is a mod of HL2. They run on the same engine, source. And no, HL2 is not less demanding than HL1. HL2 was released on Nov 04, HL1 was released in Nov 98.

hmmm i never thought of his internet... he might be choking or something.

if you google about "low fps in CSS" a lot of people have a simliar box to the author's friend and they are getting 7-11 fps

but just tell your friend to check his fps first.

you might not see much of a performance increase with a new pci card because it could be that the bandwidth of a pci slot isn't able to keep up with the rest of the system, pci slots are good for other less bandwidth consuming devices.
