I was thinking of building a passively cooled computer. Now I have looked at what other people did on the net and I saw this one guy who build the heatsinks and everything. Well I do not want to go that far but if I was going to use commercial stuff could it be done? Now I am talking about a computer with a multi core processor and possibly several HD's. Of course by default the box comes with two fans already. So would that be enough?

Well the case has two fans but I can get a heatsink that does not need a fan. I also can get PSU with out a fan and a graphic card that is passively cooled. So I am thinking now whether I should do that. What do you think? I can cut down on three extra fans?

There is a certain flawed logic to this... having a fan closer to the heat source is going to make it more effective per RPM. For example, you might get the same cooling effect to the CPU by running a 2000RPM fan on the case as an 800RPM fan on the heatsink itself.

I see what you are saying. I guess I am not quite ready for passive cooling.
