Quick question yet again;

Are opterons any good for a gaming PC? I've been reading around and haven't found a clear answer. I know they are beasts in servers, especially ones running hard working Mysql and PHP processes.

If so, any specific opteron recommended for home use? Also, what mobo would work well with it. I have a soltek one at the moment.

thanks.

The 140+ are single cores and the 165 are dual cores. The other week I put a opteron 140 in a gaming PC, and it works great. The 940 ones are proper server CPU's, but the 939 are great for gaming.

I used an ASUS A8N-SLI SE, which I would not recomend, the standard A8N-SLI is good, along with the Deluxe and premium ones. DFI would be great at getting the high overclocks the CPU is capable of.

I have a 148 which has the same core design as an FX, works great. the 940 pin server type requires regesterd ram but 939 pin does not. AMD will be quiting the 939 pin one in the near future so if you want one get it soon.
