Hey all, this is my old comp's mobo; ASRock Motherboard - Product - K8Upgrade-1689 - Overview.

The thing is, I want to upgrade it so it's slightly faster, right now it has a single-core 1.6Ghz Sempron, but according to those specs it can have a 64-bit Athlon. Now, my question is can it be dual-core or must it be single-core? I'm hoping I can upgrade it to a 3.2Ghz D-C Athlon.

Thanks,
Yami

You have a socket 754 system. AMD never made any dual core s754 processors. Sorry.

Looks like the 3700+ (2.4 GHz) is the best they put out, but finding one for less than the price of a small country could be a mean trick, as s754 was discontinued before s939... and, believe me, I have tried to find some decent prices on those.

Ah, thanks for the help :)
I did manage to find a S754 CPU, unfortunately it's the exact same one I have already >_<

Thanks,
Yami

I feel your pain. I have s754 as well. I'm just going to do some cheap upgrades, around 250 bucks or so. Cause it costs 300 bucks to get a 3700+, and that's a waste.
