Default Newbie is about to add more RAM

I would like to upgrade a toshiba laptop with more RAM. Now there is 256 and an open slot for more RAM. My question is...Do I have to match the 256 or can I go 512 or 1 gig???

best option is to look in the manufactury's web site that produce your labtop's mobo and the specs.

what model is it? goto and put in the model number and such and it'll give you all the info about your memory upgrade options. you can even buy the memory there.

I had a toshiba laptop with 256mb and the max it could support was 512, so i just added another 256. it was a satellite 2405

Intel E8400 @ 3.78ghz

ASrock P43Twins1600 (hates RAM dividers)
WD Caviar 500gb + 250gb hdd, 32mb cache
eVGA 7900gs @ 585/1700mhz
OCZ GameXStream 600w PSU

Thanks everyone!!!

Looks like I can add 256, 512, or 1 gig.
Is 1gig worth the money??? or will it be to much for my laptop???

Toshiba Satellite A65
Intel Celeron @ 2.8ghz
256mb (looking at adding 1 gig)
