we really need to have a better idea of what "cheap" means. no good if we pick an entire parts list and have to rework the whole thing because its hundreds over budget

Welcome to the tech forums Xion. There is no way to get an uber gaming rig for cheap, you simply get what you pay for. Give us a few specific examples of what you will be doing with the computer, and if you prefer AMD or Intel. Most importantly, what is your budget?

this pc will be used for gaming but also simple multimedia like watching movies and playing music, graphic design with photoshop and flash, internet browsing, and simple word and powerpoint homework things.

seriously we do need some indication of how cheap cheap is. at least the absolute maximum you would be prepared to pay and we can work to that. i mean my definition of a cheap computer is around about $1200 au ($900 US) but that could be well above what you could pay.
