Default New PC Build: Ideas/Suggestions/Warnings?

Hi,

I'm thinking of building my very first PC and am wondering if the below wishlist of components looks reasonable/whether you see any red flags in terms of compatibility. I know I need a buy a case--recs for a good case are very welcome.

Thanks in advance for your expertise!

Don't get a low profile card. Get something like this: Newegg.com - SAPPHIRE Flex 100328FLEX Radeon HD 6770 1GB GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card

For case, I would reccomend the CoolerMaster HAF. The 922 is what i have and love it.

The 6750 he has is NOT a low profile card.

Its the standard gpu size for a 6750.

As for my recomendations,

Get the 2500k not the 2500. the non "K" doesnt really allow overclocking.
750W psu is alot bigger than you need for a single gpu setup. But at $104 it's hard to beat.

Now the 6750 is a mid ranbge card, whats your plans for gaming?

For $5 more it is worth getting the i5 2500K. Even if you never overclock it the person you eventually sell/give it to may need to.
8GB G.Skill Ripjaws X 1600, same speed but $15 cheaper and smaller heatspreaders.

No hard drive (90GB SSD may be enough I guess), optical drive, operating system?

Cooler Master HAF series is nice, would also check out the NZXT M59, Rosewill Challenger, Sentey GS-6070.

Thanks so far.

No plans for gaming, or only very minimal. I'm very new at this--I just want a graphics card that performs better than the **** one that's built in to my Lenovo low-end laptop right now. Assuming I'm not doing much or any gaming, is the graphics card I have in there now *too* high-end?

Thanks for the advice on the processor--I'll go w/ 2500K.

Thanks again,

Rachel

If youre not gaming, hold off until you try out the intel onboard one then.

Plus if youre not a gamer get a smaller psu. It'll be more cost effective.
Like this one: Newegg.com - Antec TruePower New TP-550 550W Continuous Power ATX12V V2.3 / EPS12V V2.91 SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC "compatible with Core i7/Core i5" Power Supply

Patonb, in other words, go w/ no graphics card and just see how I feel about the one that comes on my motherboard?

When you say cost effective, you just mean it won't rack up my electricity bill, correct? There's not another downside to having a powerful PSU, is there?

Sorry for these simple questions--I'm really, really new to this, but I'm learning a lot very quickly!

No worries on the questions.... Thats why theres a forum.

Cost effective in that youre buying more than you'll ever need. Both will use the same electricity, thats what "Bronze Plus" means. Silver than gold the Platinum.

Theres no downside to a bigger W psu, other than the initial cost really.

Oh, and yes to the gpu question.

it takes 40 secs to install a gpu, so again why get one if you may not need it. Don't get me wrong a dedicated card will be better.

What games do you tend to play?

Not many. I would like to have the option to play them, though. Mostly I'd be using this computer for web stuff, streaming video and dl'ing video, some graphic design-y work--nothing all that strenuous. Do you think that my specs are too robust for what I plan to do w/this computer?

Thanks!
