Default New PC

For my new PC, I wanted to stay under an $800 budget, but just couldn't do it. I got greedy and decided I wanted a better video card. Anyway, here's the list, you guys can comment/criticize as you see fit. I was thinking the CPU might be a bottleneck, but I wasn't sure, so if someone could comment on that specifically, that would be great. I really don't want to spend any more money than I already am, so if it would be a better idea to get a faster processor and less of a video card, I guess I'd be willing to do that. I have my own monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers, and OS for now (using the ones I have now). I will be getting my own in the future though.

Case:

(a few of the reviews said the case was pretty good, but the power supply was a POS, but that doesn't matter as I'm getting my own power supply anyway.)

Power Supply:

Motherboard:

Processor:

RAM:

Video Card:

Hard Drive:

DVD Burner:

Any comments are welcome.

Nice, I have 2 comments.

1. I would look into getting a different brand motherboard.

2. I would go with a 6800GT, they are around that price range.

you think the power supply with your case is crap, so you get another power supply of the same crappy brand?

Yeah those thermaltakes have no problem, due to the fact that their rated in true power.

However if you wanted to spend a bit more money, it's still worth it. My *** an aspire is going to do better, they spend all their money on flash.

Since the thermaltake is boarder line, their is a slight chance of issues if you add more hardware like hard drives, or do heavy overclocking.

I read the reviews of that motherboard, and a lot of the people are really impressed. They thought they would get a piece of crap, but it turned out to be pretty good. It's also about $30 cheaper than let's say... a DFI LanParty board. Also the 6800GTs that I could find were about $20 more expensive than the X800XL.

According to Tom's Hardware, the X800XL outperforms the 6800GT in Half-Life 2 pretty easily, and I plan on playing that quite a bit (CS:S). the 6800GT, did however do better in just about every other game that was tested. I also want to play Battlefield 2 on my new system, but I really have no way of gauging which card would do better. If someone could shed some light on that subject, that would be great.

HL2 is optimized for ATI cards, compare them in BF2 and FEAR...

The 6800GT is an all around better card :P

Do you have some links or some info to back it up... why the 6800GT would be better in Battlefield 2?

Beats out the x800XL in every instance except one.

Plus you have SM3.0 which will be very crucial in future games.

The 6800GT will out perform the X800XL anyday. Tom's Hardware is unfair, they hate nVidia for some reason. Send the extra $20 and get a 6800GT.
