Inside your mind...
Okay since I got a surprise of a failing HDD today I am now in the market for a new disk drive.
I am looking for a standard HDD as I need space and have no interest in SSD currently, if I wanted a fast drive with small space I would just use a laptop HDD which I have access to right now and am using as my linux drive
So what brand is good right now?
I have been back and fourth between WD and Seagate, both have had good and bad years and flip flop constantly.
I could go toshiba but I rather not buy from them, I had some bad experiences with toshiba even moreso then both WD and Seagate.
So is this a seagate year or WD year?

Many of us use an ssd as a boot drive and an hdd as a data storage drive. Ssds have been coming down in price, if you haven't priced one lately, you may want to check them out again. A 500GB ssd runs around $170 now.

As far as spinners go, I like the WD Black series, I have a few Seagates as well and they are holding up fine.

HGST was originally IBM's disk drive business that was bought by Hitachi and then was subsequently bought by WD.
