Currently I have an MSI Ati Radeon x1950xtx, but due to having some problems with it, I am looking to upgrade.

My system is: Intel C2D 6600, 2GB RAM, MSI 975x Platinum motherboard, 550w Power Supply.

I don't want to spend too much money, but would like to get performance that would at least equal that which I have currently, as well as being easy to install and set up, and that is compatibile with the rest of my system.

On Dabs.com I was looking at MSI ATI R2600XT or the Gigabyte Radeon HD4670. Are they good options? Could my system run an nVidia card?

Thanks!

A 2600XT would be worse than your current card. You could get a 4850, they dropped a good bit in price. Or if that is too much go for what Phil said, 4670/9600GSO/9800GT

You can run any PCI-e card you want of any brand...

But right now most AMD cards are dominating nVIdia's line up for cheaper..

HD 2600XT is way worse than your X1950XTX.. while the HD 4670 would be a slight improvement but not enough that you would have to buy a new card

Thanks for your advice guys!

So out of these cards, which should I pick?

XFX GeForce 9600GSO XXX 384MB DDR3 PCIE 680/1.9GHZ
dabs.com - XFX GeForce 9600GSO XXX 384MB DDR3 PCIE 680/1.9GHZ (PVT96OFDD4)

Asustek GeForce 8800GT 256MB DDDR3 PCIE Dual DVI 600/1800 (I know it is the 256MB version, but I can't afford the £120 or so for the 512)
dabs.com - Asustek GeForce 8800GT 256MB DDDR3 PCIE Dual DVI 600/1800 (EN8800GTHTDP256)

Gigabyte Radeon HD4670 512MB GDDR3 PCIE DL DVI-I HDMI
dabs.com - Gigabyte Radeon HD4670 512MB GDDR3 PCIE DL DVI-I HDMI (GV-R467D3-512I)

or possibly this MSI RADEON RX3850 512MB DUAL DVI PCIE DDR3 668/1.6 dabs.com - MSI RADEON RX3850 512MB DUAL DVI PCIE DDR3 668/1.6 (RX3850-T2D512E)

The last card would be seriously stretching my budget, so I would only consider it if it was a big performance increase over the others.

Thanks again!

8800gt out of the 3 you listed.. but try to find a cheap HD 4830 or HD 4850

In the end I managed to find a cheap 3870 (£75) - please tell me I made the right decision?
