new computer/old HD

I think I'm in over my head. My old computer was acting up. I'd shut down at night, then in the morning it wouldn't start. I put in a new battery, then it started. Next morning same thing. I just popped the battery out, put it back in, it started. Then that night I didn't shut down. It lasted a couple of days, then quit, wouldn't start.
I bought a barebones kit, put the old HD in it, it won't power up. I believe I've got everything connected all right.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Old HDD problably isnt connected right or smthing..or working onto ur Mojtiro or Motherboard.
