you can use am3 cpus in most am2/am2+ mobos that use ddr2 ram.

i would go with Yami's suggestion of going with the athlon ii instead, its better than the first gen phenom you listed in every way.

Support for Socket AM2+ / AM2 processors: AMD Phenomâ„¢ FX / Phenom / Athlon 64 FX / Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core / Athlon X2 Dual-Core / Athlon 64 / Sempron processor
Supports CPU up to 140W
AMD LIVE!â„¢ Ready
Supports AMD's Cool 'n' Quiet Technology
FSB 2600 MHz (5.2 GT/s)
Supports Untied Overclocking Technology
Supports Hyper-Transport 3.0 (HT 3.0) Technology
AM3 CPU Ready

This is what my mobo can use, can it use the one he said? and is it a quadcore allso?

Sunbeam's Core Contact is a great heatsink. What is the model of the motherboard? It's AM3 socket ready, so it should bea ble to use the Athlon quad that was suggested. You wouldn't have to buy DDR3 either.
