Default New build S929 or AM2

I am building a PC for me mom. She needs the basics but I have trouble building crap.

I have an extra Antec Sonata II &
Earth watts 500 PSU I will use.

I am contemplating whether to go AM2 or 939?

If I go S939
I have my old 3800X2 S939 CPU that I can re-lid and use.

Otherwise I will go AM2 since the 3600X2 is only $70.

Which should I be focusing on? Should I just go AM2?

Either way, I would like to find a mobo with onboard video (preferably NVIDIA)

Also I am wondering if an AM2 running less that DDR800 will be faster than an S939 running DDR400?

I would not mind saving money and using my old X2 but I had the thing OC'd pretty heavy soo I do no if I trust it for my mom who does not live near by.

I would however like to beable to OC whatever the CPU is to at least 2400. and it seems as though aloit of the MObos that I look at are limited here.

I am partial to doing all my shopping at Newegg.com - Buy Computer Parts, PC Components, Laptop Computers, Digital Cameras and more!

And thoughts/suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks

If this is for your mom who is doing basic stuff with the computer, I'd say stick with the 939, since it's cheaper.

Yeah, basic stuff for mom.

The 939 is not cheaper unless AI use my used 3800 X2.
A new one is 118$ a new 3600 X2 is $70.

Newegg.com - GIGABYTE GA-M61P-S3 Socket AM2 NVIDIA GeForce 6100 ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail

Newegg.com - AMD Athlon 64 X2 3600+ Brisbane 1.9GHz 2 x 512KB L2 Cache Socket AM2 Processor - Retail

Newegg.com - CORSAIR ValueSelect 1GB (2 x 512MB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Desktop Memory - Retail

Those are some of the parts I would suggest if going AM2.

Uhh dude, just stick with 939, and get one of these..
Newegg.com - BIOSTAR GEFORCE 6100-M9 Socket 939 NVIDIA GeForce 6100 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail

and these..

Newegg.com - WINTEC 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail

Unless you want better RAM or something..

Either way, no reason to WASTE your x2 3800+

LOL,

It is in the cart.

However , I am going with Corsair Value select. I am partial to Corsair.

I just RMA'd my XMS and they gave me the run around so I wrote a letter and they sent me an x-tra set of XMS 2x1gb and a bunch of flash memory!

So I could give my mom 2x1gb XMS but I think either I will use it or ebay it.

Thanks for replying.

LOL,

There was a bit more to it than what I mentioned!

But if RMA ever screws you then write a letter to the CEO/founder Andy Paul.

Cheers
