I recently bought a new computer which I just love (for now) except the thing is way too loud. There is a god awful 80mm on the back that is louder than the dust laden one on my 3 year old HP. So, I need some suggestions on what I should do. I am thinking either really quiet, reliable fans or maybe some variable fans that I could control in some way.

The Vantec Stealths are quite quiet. They only make about 21dB which, as far as you're concerned, is silent.

They are also pretty good quality fans and you should get a good lifespan out of them. The only concern I have with the Stealths is that they dont move as much as air as their noisy counterparts. Perhaps 2 of these on the back of your case would make a good cooling solution.

You could also consider getting an aftermarket CPU fan and heatsink, which can be quieter than stock.
