I have an old wheezer AMTEC 1 computer, with 10gb hard drive. It runs windows XP.

I'd like to put a 250gb hard drive in.

People have told 'to be sure that my motherboard supports it'.

My motherboard is Intel Corp D815EEA AAA10380-406.

Here's where it gets complicated: I couldn't find how to tell. Intel says that was a motherboard they sold to some other manufacturer, and to go to them. Well, there is no more AMTEC.

So, how the hey do I find whether or not my motherboard will support a drive of that size?

For starters you can only use ide drives with that board. That means no SATA drives. It supports ultra ata so you should not have a problem with drives over 137gb (Assuming you are running win xp sp2 or later). Worst case if you do you can partition the drive to less than 137gb. Unfortunately they do not have any bios updates.

Here is the product page for your board.
Intel® Desktop Board D815EEA/D815EPEA - Intel® Desktop Board D815EEA/D815EPEA support

Thanks for finding that board description. I have it in my computer.

Since I'm a beginner type on this---what do I look for in my motherboard description that tells me what size hard drive it will support? There's pages of technical stuff, and I don't know what to look for.
