Default Need help building first computer

Hey guys, I'm going to build a computer for the first time and I need some help picking out the components. Gaming is my top priority, followed by multimedia. My budget is about $1000, a little more if necessary. In addition to all the basic components, I also need a monitor, keyboard, mouse, and speakers. I don't need a sound card right now but I want the ability to be able to install one later

I don't know if this is standard in most computers so I'll just say this: The computer must be capable of being connected to a VCR and copying the contents of the tape onto the computer or burn onto a DVD. (I'm guessing that would have to do with the motherboard)

Finally, I may or may not be able to connect the computer to the dsl modem directly with an ethernet cable. So I need an alternative, in terms of wireless.

I have basic parts in mind that I want but I fear that with the addition of everything else I need, it may be over my budget. So please help with my selection.

Thank you very much

Ok so I have picked out what i really want but its a little over my budget...

VIDEO CARD= PNY VCG88512GXPB G92 GeForce 8800GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 PureVideo HD Technology HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Retail= $260

PSU= CORSAIR CMPSU-520HX ATX12V v2.2 and EPS12V 2.91 520W Power Supply 100 - 240 V UL, CUL, CE, CB, FCC Class B, TUV, CCC, C-tick - Retail= $110

RAM= Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail= $75

MOBO= GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3R LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail= $127

HARD DRIVE= Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3320820A 320GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache IDE Ultra ATA100 Hard Drive - OEM= $75

COOLER= ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro 92mm CPU Cooler - Retail (this doesn't need thermal paste right?)= $22

CASE= *********need help picking this out**********

MONITOR= Acer AL1916WAbd Black 19" 5ms DVI Widescreen LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 700:1 - Retail= $180

KEYBOARD= Logitech UltraX Silver/Black 104 Normal Keys 6 Function Keys USB Standard Media Keyboard - OEM= $19

So the total is $1230 without even a case and I really need to shave off a couple hundred dollars, but I'm not sure what to take away without sacrificing too much performance. Some help would be appreciated.

Is the motherboard fine as it is, or do I need to switch it to the Abit IP35-E or is there even a cheaper option that will work as well?

Finally, if someone could just look that over and make sure it's all compatible and good that would be great.
