Default My Build

Recently my friend built a pretty sweet computer for himself and t inspired me. I am currently using an old pII with 64mb Ram and windows 98. I would like to know if I'm headed in the right direction, or if there are any compatibility issues. This comp would be used for some video editing, gaming and some work. Any suggestions/feedback would be great! thx!

Windows Xp service pack 2

compatible? yes...
sensable? no

case- dont use the psu that comes with it
mobo- lots of the reveiws sad it was DOA
cpu- ok
ram- dont go with expensive ram if your not overclocking.. if you are, then get it that.. if not, ditch that ram, get some ocz value ram and spend the saved 100 bucks on a psu thats worth a crap
hdd- ok
video- get a 6800GS

Static_11- k, I wasn't planning on OC so I'll get the other Ram sticks, Video card looks good (6800gs). Do I really need a new Psu for the case? If So i would go with this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817709006

Vaderpro-I'm going to go with the 6800gs because I think it'll do just fine, a 7600gt looks nice, but would put me overbuget.

yeah i would get a new psu.. that one will most likely fry something sooner or later.. never cheap out while buying a psu.. its one of the most important things in a comp...

ok, I could get that one instead. I do have a few questions though. 1. would I have a problem fitting it in my case? I read alot of the revviews and people said it wouldn't fit. The power connction to My Mobo is a 24 pin, would the 20+4 Pin connection work?( I am assuming yes, but I would like to be sure. And furthermore there are alot of reviews of the voltage fluctuating. Thanks

i would get a different case altogether...

something like this.. cheaper and made of aluminum (unlike yours)

if you have problems with the suggested PSU, you can get this one.. its great value.

its not about the motherboard its about whats connected to the motherboard. usually high-end cards need a lot of juice, so thats where you'd need a good PSU. also in the case of SLI, Crossfire, or in general if you have a lot of components...

for your build, the 450watt more than adequate. if you had a higher end card then maybe you'd need higher.. but with the 6600 you don't have anything thats juice-hungry (or thirsty..)
