I had someone drop a computer off for me to repair. Her power supply is out, I've tested it. I want to put a new power supply in but I'm afraid the mother board may cause it to go out again, since I don't think a power serge or lightening ruined the last power supply. Is there a way for me to test the motherboard so I don't waste money on ruining a new psu?

What do you mean "the power supply is out"? You've tested it; does this mean it is dead, i.e., no power, no fan? Or that it has been removed from the case and is no longer hooked up to anything? What makes you suspicious that the motherboard could be the culprit? Also, what brand is the power supply?

If it is dead, I doubt the motherboard caused it though when it comes to PC's anything can happen.
