Default Is more than 4GB ram worth it?

I see those Christmas specials with 8-16GB ram bonuses.
Does having more ram, above the 4GB mark, really improve your performance (or FPS in games)?

I just use 3GB and I rarely go over 50% on it.
How much ram do you guys actually use and have?

More ram (above 4gb) will not help your fps in gaming. It will help with multiple vm's or serious photoshop, video encoding etc.

Yeah I think if you generally have to ask what it'll improve, it won't help you in any way you'll notice :P

That's ok though, more than 4 gigs is used for special purposes and you should be fine going with 4GBs of awesome ram instead of 8GBs or 16GBs of good ram you know?
