Default Which is more powerful

Which is better a 7900 GS or an 8600 GT? i can get a real good deal on both from a friend cuz hes building an AMD/ATI based System... so ya... his 7900 GS was his old card and the 8600 GT he bought a week ago and he found out hes getting a new PC with an x1950pro XTX so he is saying good bye to both.... so which is better (cuz i wanna use the card i choose on my build i wanna buy at the end of the month)

7900 GS could be slightly more powerful, just a little but 8600GT will be a lot better card when DX10 games comes out. Get the 8600GT as it is future proof and still a decent card.

Or the 8600GTS, which is only a little more money, than the 7900GS.

edit: Oh I see that those are your only two options from your friend. Well the 8600GT will do better in future DX10 games.

thanks they are both extreme edtion xxx's already overclocked massively by my pal, wish the 8600 gt was an eVGA i could use that 30 day step-up program and get a GTS

Out of the 7900 GS and the 8600 GT, id choose the 8600. Both cards are basically equal, but, as b1gapl said, the 8600 has the advantage of being compatible with DX10 games
