I am intending to upgrade my video card, so I opened my case to look at it, and found the molex connectors that would go into the graphics card.

However, I noticed that some of these connectors have 4 wires coming out of them, while others have 8. My wires are all bundled up, so I have no idea what leads to where.

My question is, why do some have 8 wires, others 4? What is the difference?

Can I use those with 8 wires to plug into a graphics card?

Any help would be appreciated. Need to sort this out before I head down to the store to get the card tomorrow.

Thanks!

Actually I read that the video card comes with a molex to 6-pin adapter. I'm just concerned as to whether I have the right molex connectors. Can anyone advise?

Most cards just need one six pin connector like preacher said, 2 rows of 3.

But, for those that don't have a six pin connector from their power supply they provide a dual-molex to six pin adapter where you need to have 2 molex connectors into the one end and then plug the six pin side into your card.
