But the motherboard you posted is expensive

I suggest
Newegg.com - GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail
Newegg.com - G.SKILL 1GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Desktop Memory - Retail
Newegg.com - Intel Dual-Core E2160 Allendale 1.8GHz 1MB L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor - Retail

This ^^ cost only $240, and E2160 is faster than 3600+

EDIT: And it would cost only $270 if he change E2160 to E4400

If you can find cheaper AMD motherboard then it will be cheaper than what I suggested. There is no reason to pay $149 for a motherboard

ok so how's this...

-BIOSTAR TFORCE 550 Socket AM2 NVIDIA nForce 550 MCP ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail
-AMD Athlon 64 X2 3600+ Brisbane 1.9GHz 2 x 512KB L2 Cache Socket AM2 Processor - Retail
-G.SKILL 1GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Desktop Memory - Retail

about the memory, i've always used kingston before but never tested or even thought about changing. is G.Skill perhaps a better type?

please let me know if this combo is good? and also if there is a better combo?
if i calculated correctly then the above comes to a total of about $190-200

thanx again!

G. Skill is overall a better company than Kingston. It's always recommended around here.

That combo looks great.

You might need to upgrade the PSU, to be on the safe side of things. I would suggest:
Newegg.com - FSP Group (Fortron Source) AX400-PN ATX12V 400W Power Supply 120/220 - 240v NEMKO, TUV, CSA, IEC, UL, CE - Retail
