Default Memory Upgrade

hello

i have a memory upgrade question i have an abit nf7-s mobo with 512 ram installed 2x256 of corsair xms series ram my question is if i buy a single stick of 512 will it be fine along side a set of 256x2. also is there any downside to having it that way versus 2 sticks of 512 thanks...

It should work fine. No down side to having it that way but 2 512 sticks would be faster.

also...my mobo manual says that it can only handle either 3 dimms DDR 200/266/333 (max 3gb)

or 2 dimm DDR 400 (max 2 gbs)

how do i tell which i have is there a program i could download?
