memory question

i just bought a barebones Intel 2.8 ghz computer, and it takes ddr400.. i forgot to get memory for it, which is being shipped now but can the computer run w/o the memory to load windows or does a memory sttick have to be in there to work, i dont think so but my dad told me it could work so anything would be nice
