Memory (Can I mix the two?)

Hey everyone,

I just bought a DELL 5100 that came with 512MB of DDR2 SDRAM PC3200 400MHz. Well, the 5100 also take DDR2 SDRAM PC4200 533MHz. If I wanted to go upgrade to 1GB.... can I mix the 2 speeds? Or should I get just another 400MHz one? Is there any difference? Any help or recomendations are welcomed!

Not 100% sure on this, but I think it's OK to mix they two, but the PC4200 will only run at PC3200 speeds. If that's the case, it would be a waste of money for the PC4200, unless you toss out the PC3200 and buy a full GB of the PC4200.

What beardo526 said is right. You can mix the two speeds but the faster ram module will be limited to the speed of the slower ram module.
