Ok, I have a Compaq Presario S6000CL, with a ASUS A7V8X-LA motherboard. It currently has 512mb RAM, and nowadays, that is not nearly enough (as you all know). I went to Compaq's website (which is now HP) to figure out the type of RAM and the max that's allowed. Under "Product Specifications", it says the maximum memory allowed is 1gb (512 X 2). But if i go to "Motherboard Specifications", it says: "Maximum memory size is up to 2GB, 1GB per slot.
HP recommends a maximum memory of 1GB, 512MB per slot." Why would HP only recommend 1gb? I really want 2GB, but i'm afriad to spend my money, and not have it work! Any suggestions? HP's motherboard specs for my product:

Yes your motherboard will support 2GB don't worry.

Just make sure you buy DDR RAM and not DDR2 or DDR3.

Just get two 1GB sticks of DDR RAM and you will be fine.
