Default Looking into buying a new monitor, what should I look for?

I'm trying to determine a good monitor to buy, CRT or LCD doesn't matter to me, however I am an avid gamer and I want a monitor that will give me good gaming performance, my computer is a decent gaming rig with a Geforce 7900GT, however my monitor is an old 17 inch CRT and its dying on me.

If I go LCD, what should I look for there? I notice there are response times listed for LCD monitors, between 2ms and 8 ms for different ones, would that make a large difference while gaming?

Also if you have a decent gaming monitor that is hopefully not too expensive, say less than $225 or so, please list it.

Any help is appreciated

A little over your budget, but this is one of the fastest LCD monitors in the world (2ms refresh):

A cheaper alternative:

A good 17" monitor, cheaper: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824116314

I like ViewSonic .
