Default laptop vs mini itx

hi guys,

i want a new or 2nd pc either a laptop or mini itx pc, its purpose is to stay on over night and occasionally days but 99.9% of the time going to be switched on and left overnight, its not going to do any strenuous tasks just run 1 task in the background

I think it would be better for you to get a mini ITX PC instead, because I don't think laptops were designed to be running overnight.

Well is there any need to take the computer around with you? If not I'd go with a mini-ITX; that way you'll have more options when building.

mini itx cases some of them have got low profile pci slots but lets say when you buy a pci or pci-e card cant you change the metal bracket to a smaller one so it can fit in the case as the cards are screwed on the bracket so cant you swap it with another bracket, heres the link

Conventional PCI - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

look at the section Low Profile

Very few mini-ITX motherboards have PCI slots (let alone PCI-E), they nearly all have integrated graphics.

Er, no it doesn't. The only kind of slot I can see are RAM slots. And besides, it's Ion, which is nVidia's new integrated chip.

Though GeForce 9300-ITX WiFi - Zotac FG9300-D-E, GF 9300, 775, DDR2 800, SATA 3Gb/s, SATA RAID, Mini ITX w/ WiFi, OnBoard Graphics - Scan.co.uk would be an even better example as that has a PCI-E slot instead of PCI.

Anwyay, semantics aside, I think you have your answer :P And yes, if you get one with a PCI-E slot then you'll need to get a low-profile GPU.
