Laptop RAM upgrade

Hello all,

I'm wanting to upgrade the RAM in my laptop and have no idea what is compatible or what it all means.

I have a Compaq Presario V2000 laptop with current RAM of 2x512MB DDR PC2700 ...I would like to upgrade to 2x1GB but I don't know what to buy.

I want to keep it as cheap as possible but still be reliable. Do I have to stay with DDR PC2700 (which seems to be relatively expensive!) ? Or can I go with the cheaper PC5400 ? Or..??

What do you recommend? And do you have any preferred sellers that ship to Canada?

Generally with laptops you can only replace one of the ram dimms. That means you could replace one of the 512mb with a 1gb stick for a total of 1.5gb. So you would only ve increasing your total ram by 512.

You cannot use pc5400 ram because that is ddr2 ram and you need ddr ram

I believe that model you can upgrade both RAM modules and the laptop will be maxed out at 2 GB. So if you want to purchase two sticks of what Hef suggested that will give you a total of 2 GB.
