Exclamation Laptop hdd to Desktop hdd converter? possible?

Maxtor OneTouch III Mini Edition - hard drive - 60 GB - Hi-Speed USB specs

Hello, I would like to know if it would be possible to take apart this External and use it as an ide drive in my desktop computer. I already have the drive and see that the side panels can be taken off where screws are exposed. I need this because at the moment i have no funds, no primary hdd, and windows refuses to boot from this external drive.

My only concern is connectivity. Is there an adapter that i'd need to purchase?

Thanks

As long as the drive is SATA you shouldnt have any problems using it, if it is PATA on the other hand...it might be a trite bit more difficult. The only thing that concerns me is that 2.5" hdds use 5v unlike the 3.5" which use 12v. I'm pretty sure that when plugged in it will only draw 5v considering the PSU doesnt "push" the power, only supplies as much as is needed. But a word of warning, make sure the hard drive is fairly firmly in place. Letting it vibrate too much can cause damage to the spindle and actuators and really anything else inside the drive.

it has a different interface, and would require an adapter like this one

Laptop 2.5" to Desktop 3.5" Hard Drive IDE Adapter Converter
