Hi, a friend of mine is looking to purchase a new laptop and I was hoping I could get some advice on what model to recommend to him. He's considering the following two models from Best Buy:

Gateway MX6450 ~$1200
Toshiba M45-S2653 ~$1050

(Not purchasing through either of these sites; just using them to list specs.)

My friend will mostly be using the laptop for school/internet; not a lot of heavy gaming. If anyone could give me any thoughts or insights about these two laptops or suggest reasonable alternates within a smiliar price range, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

The Gateway has a 64 bit CPU, twice the RAM, a bigger hard drive, better graphics (still onboard), one more USB port, can use Type I and Type II cards... plus it ain't Intel.

Go for the Gateway. It's worth the extra $150.

I'm not a huge fan of either Gateway or Toshiba, but I'd go with the Gateway hands-down in this situation. It seems like a solid choice.

Thanks for the responses. I went ahead and advised my friend to purchase the Gateway.
