which laptop

Ok so i want to buy a laptop for college and my budget is 1000-1500 and i want a 17 inch WXUGA or ultra bright view possibly a dual core processor but not sure. i want a computer when i can put 2x 7200rpm hard drives in and run a raid. but possibly later not on the inital purchase. i will be doing some digital art/gaming/and possibly computer programming./

what would you all recommend ive check out the pctorque 9750 and things like taht but they are way out of my current budget and i refuse to go to alienware and dell. so any other suggestions like an hp or something.

I recommend HP DV8000T with Intel Core 2 Duo.

It starts out with 512MB RAM; I highly recommend doubling it for $100. And it has (2) 80GB HD's, one for the OS, and one for Music/Videos.

I will go for Toshiba Qosmio- my god they look good !!! I might get one myself if got the doh

Qosmios are nice but boy they're spendy, not to mention bulky. I'de recommend an hp 8000 series as well. If you get an Intel Core Dup I believe you can get a nice video system, gefroce 7400 i think. Take a quick look at the HP/Compaq's Small Business laptops too, some good ones in there just not customizable.
