Windows should have no problem at all seeing an unformatted drive. Windows allows you to partition an unformatted drive within the first few steps of its setup.

Again I ask are you using an ide or sata optical drive?

You need to format the hard drive to NTFS.

Why do people keep tell him he needs to format the drive in order for windows to see it? This is not true. It needs to be formatted in order for Windows to write/read to it, but Windows certainly knows an unformatted drive is there. I've done plenty of Windows installs on blank HD's and have formatted the HD form within Windows setup.

As you can see with this screen shot Windows can see an unformatted drive.

was a sata drive just installed windows to the ide and got it all set up, loving it

That really doesnt solve your problem. Why would you want to use IDE when SATA is availabe and you have a SATA HD? You're only hurting your own performance?

After Windows installed to the IDE drive were you able to connect the SATA drive and have Windows access it?
