Default Interfering with Infrared-Based Remote Controls

Hey everyone, i am thinking about making this device which when you press a button, can somehow interfere with all infrared signals, and therefore, remote controls wouldn't work. Can someone please tell me how this is done and what kinds of signals, if any, can interfere with it.
