Hi, I am buying a PC for my dad from Dell. When I bought from Dell Intel was the processor on their systems.

Now AMD seems to be what they're offering.

How does one compare the two speeds?
Does the AMD Athlon 64 3200+ mean the same as Intels 3.2 Ghz processor?

Thanks!
Any other tips are appreciated!

I think that the AMD 3200+ is comparable to the intel D 3.2GHz I could be wrong but I think I remeber reading that somewhere. Also Dell probably has AMD because they are so cheap now

1. build yourself much cheaper and much better quality parts the pc in my sig cost me just under £1,600 a near exact same spec computer + extras from dell would of cost £3,200 at the time built it.

2. Intel and Amd are hard to compare depends on the actual processor not the ghz label check here for actual performance comparisons: Tom's Hardware Guide Processors: CPU Charts

3. what type of core??? AMD is better single core, Intel's core2duo are best with double and Intel is the only company offering quad core but the AMD ones are suppose to be much more powerful.
