1. What's the best Intel processor for running very heavy graphical games so
far ?

2. What do you think about this processor from the gaming side ?

1: easily the intel core 2 duo etreme x6800, the world's fastest mainstream consumer processor atm in terms of raw gaming performance and overclockability.

2.Overpriced, buy an e6600 and overclock it.

The Pentium D is the worst current CPU for games.

Pick up a cheap AMD 64 or if you have enouph money, get a Intel Core 2 Duo.

You said "running very heavy graphical games".

IMO you ought to get one of the following.

1) AMD x2 3800 AM2 Socket
2) Intel E6300 or E6400

Make sure you get the AM2 socket if you go with AMD. Essentially the only difference between the 2 Intels is the stock CPU speed, though the multiplier on the E6300 is x7 as opposed to the E6400 x8. In addition the Cache is larger on the E6400. The cost difference is about $50.00. The choice is yours.

If you OC, then both can be taken to psuedo-E6800 speeds

More importantly for gaming than the CPU is your GPU, graphics card. At this point in time I would go for 7900GT or the X1900XT (Ithink, my ATI knowledge sucks). That class is better to for maxing settings out (if possible).

The cache is NOT larger on the e6400 than on the e6300. Both have 2MB L2 cache. The only difference is clockspeed.

Personally, I'd get the e6400, it has a tendency to overclock a bit further than the e6300, and if you're not into overclocking, the higher stock speed is worth the extra 50 bucks.

E6300 and E6400 = 2MB
E6600, E6700 and X6800 = 4MB

E6300 = 7x
E6400 = 8x
E6600 = 9x
E6700 = 10x (?)
X6800 = unlocked
