Default Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Price Slash

Walked into the puter store today thinking I was gonna buy an AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual-core when the salesperson hinted of a new line of quad core desktops by the end of the month. Its a known fact that Intel has been cutting prices lately, so I'm thinking its worth waiting a few weeks more, if I can get a quad core for the price of a dual one. Any comments ??

New line by the end of the month? Maybe he was referring to AMD's new quad cores. But they're supposedly set for November.

Anyone know if the Intel Q6600 is a 64 bit processor? It be helpful if I know I can run 64 bit apps, or upgrade to Vista 64.

Yeah basically, I believe within a few years, we'll be done w/ 32 bit.

The main difference between the two, is that 64-bit can handle larger files more efficiently, than 32-bit.

is the 64bit vista ultimate comaptible with almost every software? and every game?
Im talking about the latest games and some of the most common software.
Like i have work 2007...will i have to get a 64 bit version for it too?
If i do have to get a 64 bit version for every software, its going to get expensive buying everything all over again.
