As for pre-builts, there are probably dozens of companies with the 'best' Intel system.

What do you mean by 'best'? Best at number-crunching, best at graphics processing, best at being overclocked, best at advertising Intel? etc.

i7s are the 'best' these days for most things, with 930's being the 'best' (or most popular at least) still on the market.
