The 6600 seems to be hitting ~ 3600ish on air cooling.

The dual core opterons usually do 2.7ghz, stock cooling. The 6600 is going to outperform it. BUT, on the flip side, I think I'd get an AM2 setup. It provides an upgrade path to AM3 and K8L chips.

AM3, K8L? :dunno:

I'm not going to worry about it for right now, I've pretty much just decided to go e6600, but I need a good mobo and some good ram. Suggestions? I really can't even begin to figure out which mobo I should buy.

Well anyway, this is what I've ended up putting together. Way over budget, but whatever lol.

Any changes/suggestions? I really wasn't sure about the RAM I picked (many similar but different options), or the mobo for that matter, but I think I did a pretty good job? I'm also considering just going with a e6400 instead of the 6600 and getting a new monitor because the one I'm on now sucks ***. I'd like this computer to be suitable as is though for a long time without needing upgrades so maybe I should just go with the 6600. ahhhhh idk.

Umm, it looks good. I would drop the BFG PSU, and get something like an Antec TP2 or OCZ PSU. IDK, maybe the BFG one isn't that bad, I just haven't heard of their PSUs.

Oh, and rather get the X1900XT than the XTX. The increase in performance isn't worth the difference in price, same as the 7900GTX and GT.

I allready decided to go with a different PSU (at suggestions from another forum) and I was told on other forums the same thing about the XT vs XTX so I'm just gonna go with the XT.

i wouldnt get the tsunami. get a lian li case :D

http://www.crazypc.com/products/lianlicases.html

I definitely like the look of lion li cases, but I'm mainly concerned with functionality and lion li seems to come with a higher price tag then others.

Any case suggestions though guys? I just want as much airflow as possible, without a ton of noise, and with a good amount of hdd bays.

Also, can you guys suggest some CPU coolers for me? I got my eye on a couple but I don't know of any real-world performance results from any of them.

And lastly, is the GPU cooler on the x1900xt sufficient? At least on the xtx people were complaining about noise.

btw, I decided to go with a raptor for my OS and games.

that's the case i'm looking at buying right now. there are just 11ty billion cases, it's hard to find and weed out the good ones.

if i had to go with that case or the tsunami, i'd take the tsunami.

although the aerocool case does look like it provides good airflow due to the mesh cover..
